Conversations with John Goodman & Michaela Coel of BLACK EARTH RISING
Q&A with John Goodman & Michaela Coel. Moderated by Mara Webster.
Black Earth Rising, a limited series launching on Netflix Jan 25, is a modern thriller that follows the journey of Kate Ashby (Michaela Coel), a Rwandan orphaned by the genocide, raised in London by an adoptive mother and working as a legal researcher, trying to discover the truth of her past. The series examines the West’s relationship with Africa, set in a world of prosecution of war crimes. John Goodman plays a human rights lawyer who works with Coel’s character on a new war crimes case that unravels secrets from both of their pasts. The series is a character drama, journey of self-discovery and a thriller with plot twists in each episode – who is allied with whom? What are they protecting? And why? The characters are part of an increasingly dangerous game as the series unfolds.
