On June 13, the awards of the 71st Berlin International Film Festival were presented in front of an audience at the Museum Island. The gala, which among other awards also included the presentation of the Silver and Golden Bears 2021, was hosted by Katty Salié. With Executive Director Mariette Rissenbeek and Artistic Director Carlo Chatrian. The following prizes were awarded:
Golden Bear for Best Film: Radu Jude and Ada Solomon for „Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn“
Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize: Ryusuke Hamaguchi for „Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy“
Silver Bear Jury Prize: Maria Speth for „Mr Bachmann and His Class“ o. Herr Bachmann und seine Klasse
Silver Bear for Best Director: Dénes Nagy for „Natural Light”
Silver Bear for Best Leading Performance: Maren Eggert in „I’m Your Man“ o. Ich bin dein Mensch
Silver Bear for Best Supporting Performance: Lilla Kizlinger in „Forest – I See You Everywhere
Silver Bear for Best Screenplay: Hong Sangsoo for „Introduction“
Silver Bear for Outstanding Artistic Contribution: Yibrán Asuad fort he editing in „A Cop Movie“
Best Film in Encounters: Alice Drop for „We“
Special Jury Award in Encoutners Lê Bảo for „Taste“
Best Director in Encounters (ex aequo): Ramon und Silvan Zürcher for „The Girl and the Spider“
Best Director in Encounters (ex aequo): Denis Côté for „Social Hygiene“
Special Mention in Encounters: Fern Silva for “Rock Bottom Riser“
GWFF Best First Feature Award: Dasha Nekrasova for „The Scary of Sixty.First“
GWFF Special Mention: Bardia Yadegari and Ehsam Mirhosseini for „District Terminal“
Berlinale Documentary Award: Alice Diop for „We“
